Best Places to Take Your Dog

It’s been a long winter, especially for your dog.
Sweater weather is almost over…
And although he loves sleeping…
He’s tired of playing board games with you.
Now that it is getting warmer, he is ready to get outside.
If you’re looking for a great place to take your dog this spring, here are my top three:

Schuylkill River Trail

A great place to go for a jog, this trail stretches all the way from Center City Philadelphia out to Valley Forge and is full of grassy places that are perfect for a game of fetch. There are plenty of park benches to sit and enjoy the view of the Schuylkill River if you get tired and even a few water fountains along the way for your dog (and you!) to get a drink.

Schuylkill River Dog Run

Located at 25th and Spruce, this dog park has been fixed up and has an astroturf surface for your dog to play on (although if he’s anything like mine, he’ll prefer to dig holes in the wooded area next to it). This park is great because you can go for a run with him along Kelly Drive and then let him loose in the dog park to meet new friends. They also have a separate area for small dogs, so if you have a pint-sized pup you don’t need to worry about him getting eaten up.

John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum

Just south of Philadelphia on Route 95 there is a beautiful 1000-acre wildlife refuge that not many people seem to know about. There are approximately 10 miles of trails that take you around a picturesque lake and through beautiful woods and marshland. A great place to bird watch and see other wildlife, it’s also an excellent place to bring your dog. There are all sorts of new sounds and smells for him to experience.
