Snow and ice can make open houses and showings difficult, but there are some advantages to selling and buying your home in the winter. The cold weather decreases the number of showings, but most buyers looking in the winter are serious and not merely curious or looking “for fun”. Statistics show that most corporate moves happen during the month of January over any other month of the year.
For sellers, fewer listings in the market means fewer properties being advertised. This increases your property’s exposure on real estate websites and social media.There is less inventory, but a savvy buyer will know that this also means less competition than in the spring market. This will help them to avoid making pressured, impulse purchases and potentially getting into multiple offer situations and bidding wars. Buyers are spending more time indoors and looking at properties online, trying to get a jump on the spring market.
